Vice-Chancellor of The University For Development Studies Pays a Courtesy Call on The Yagbon-Wura.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan has paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional area, Yagbonwura Tun-tumba Boressah I at his palace in Damongo.
The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce himself to the Yagbonwura, following his ap-pointment and induction as the fifth (5th) Vice-Chancellor of the premier university in Northern Ghana. Prof. Seidu Al-hassan sought the Yagbonwura’s support to ensure a successful tenure.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seidu Al-hassan thanked the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area for establishing an education fund to support brilliant but needy students. Prof. Seidu Al-hassan asked for support from the Yagbonwura to bolster efforts by the university to expand existing facilities including lecture halls, halls of residence, and libraries. He explained the mandate given to him as Vice-Chancellor, and assured the Yagbonwura that the university was already in smooth operation, adding that tireless work to ensure the university’s success and speedy progress was underway.
The Yagbonwura, speaking through his Linguist, Alhaji Afuli Losina, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his astuteness in the academic field that warranted his appointment to the high office of Vice-Chancellor and expressed the hope that he would bring his experience to bear on the university’s expeditious development and progress.
While commending Prof. Seidu Al-hassan for his hard work thus far, the Yagbonwura appealed to him to provide scholarships at UDS for brilliant but needy students from the Gonja Traditional Area. He also appealed to the Vice-Chancellor, to provide opportunities at UDS to discover and nurture talents for the various sporting fields. He assured the Vice-Chancellor of his support, whenever the University decides to develop its parcels of land in Damango.
As a sign of his appreciation for the visit, the Yagbonwura presented the Vice-Chancellor with a smock.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Head of University Relations, Mr. Abdul Hayi Moomen and the Assistant Registrar at the University Relations Office, Mr Ayuba Ibrahim.
