UDS’ School of Nursing and Midwifery Donates GHS15,800 To Help Student Pay for His Child’s Medical Bills

The Dean, lecturers and students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery have presented a sum of GHS15,800 as contribution towards the medical expenses of Mr. Zackariah’s (a Level 400 Paediatric Nursing student) child who is battling with an undisclosed health condition. This donation was made on 15th June, 2021 at the School of Nursing conference room.

In a speech made on behalf of the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery by Ms. Florence Assibi Ziba (Nursing and Midwifery), narrated how Mr. Zachariah (student) who has been a very active student suddenly became distant and withdrawn. Upon interrogation, he disclosed that he had a sick child who needed urgent medical attention but he could not afford treatment due to the huge sums of money involved.

He therefore could not hold back his tears as an amount of GHS15,800 was presented to him. This cash presentation was made by Mr. Dominic Abugri, the HoD for General Nursing, on behalf of the Dean.

Speaking on behalf of Management at the forum, Mr. Broni Boahene expressed the profound gratitude of the University to the School Administration and all individuals who contributed to the success of this exercise. He commended their efforts and urged the entire University Community to learn from this kind gesture, as it is admirable and worth emulating.

The representative of the Dean, Ms. Florence Assibi Ziba, Head of University Relations, Mr. Edward Broni Boahene, some lecturers as well as student representatives were present at the occasion.

Ms. Ziba reiterated that, Mr. Zackariah is likely to receive more funding as donations are still ongoing.
