UDS PhD Student Appointed to National Peace Council, Reflecting University’s Commitment to Producing National Leaders

The University for Development Studies (UDS) continues to affirm its reputation as a hub for nurturing leaders who serve the nation at the highest levels, following the appointment of one of its PhD students, Mr. Benjamin Dimongso Kafari, as a Council Member of the North East Re-gional Peace Council under the National Peace Council of Ghana.

The appointment underscores UDS’ commitment to producing graduates who combine academic excellence with practical impact in national development.

Mr. Kafari, a PhD candidate in Development Studies at the Faculty of Sustainable Development Studies, exemplifies the University’s unique training philosophy, particularly its emphasis on community engagement through the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP). His academic journey has been marked by a strong focus on addressing real-world challenges, espe-cially in peacebuilding, conflict management, and sustainable development.

Over the years, he has distinguished himself as a development practitioner, leading impactful interventions in conflict-prone communities across Northern Ghana. As Executive Director of Aid for Socio-Economic and Rural Development (ASERD-GHANA), he has spearheaded initia-tives that promote social cohesion, strengthen local peace structures, and support vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth.

His appointment to the Regional Peace Council, established under the National Peace Council Act, 2011 (Act 818), is a recognition of his expertise and dedication to national service. In this role, he is expected to contribute to conflict prevention, mediation, and policy advisory efforts aimed at sustaining peace and stability.

For UDS, this milestone is yet another testament to its growing legacy of producing graduates and staff who are called upon to serve in critical national and international roles. It reflects the University’s mission of blending academic training with practical experience to develop profes-sionals who make meaningful contributions to society.

The University community extends its warm congratulations to Mr. Kafari and remains confident that he will bring distinction to both the institution and the nation in his new role.
