The President of the Central and Local NUGS of the Nyankpala Campus, Madam Saeedatu Imoro in her welcome address said, the purpose of the debate was to foster togetherness between the two campuses, create an avenue for intellectual discourses that affect nation building, award the intellectual excellence of female students, challenge students to be great thinkers as future leaders and finally, highlight the relevance of NUGS to students.
She underscored the role of the National Union of Ghana Students(NUGS) in building the capacities of students through its activities such as debates, seminars and workshops. She also admonished her colleagues to pick up leadership roles when called upon to build their confidence.
Motions for the debate were “The Effectiveness of Vocational Training versus Traditional Academic Education” and “Addressing Mental Health Challenges Among Students: School's Responsibility or Individual's Accountability?”.
The two motions, according to Communications Director of the Local NUGS of the Nyankpala Campus, Madam Muntaka Hannan Ashrawi, sought to identify and address challenges facing the vocational, mental health and the traditional academic education sectors and at the same time, expose students to national, regional and international discourse to build their confidence and also contribute to the development of the world.
All participants in the debate competition received certificates, gifts and hampers for taking part in the competition.
