UDS Named Among Top 10 Science Universities In Ghana - 38 Academic Staff Among Top 1,000 Scientists In Ghana
Thirty-eight (38) staff of the University for Development Studies have been ranked among the top 1,000 scientists in the country by the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2022 Version 2.
Additionally, the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2022 Version 2, ranked the University for Development Studies among the best 10 universities in Ghana.
The Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2022 Version 2, named Professor Francis A. Abantanga. Of UDS’ Department of Surgery, School of Medicine as the 19th best scientist in Ghana out of the 1,000 scientists featured. Similarly, Professor Samuel Jerry Cobbina of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment of the University for Development Studies, was also named as the 30th best scientist in the country, while Prof. Samuel Donkor, Dean of the School of Applied Economics and Management Sciences, of UDS was named in the 51st position out of the 1000 scientists featured.
The other persons, all of whom were staff of UDS at the time of the assessment, and who were featured among the best scientists in Ghana include, Prof. Frederick Adzitey, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Sekyere, Prof. Victor Mogre, Prof. Juventus Benogle Ziem, Dr. Mahama Saaka, Dr. Gideon Danso Abbeam, Prof. Paul Kwame Nkegbe, Dr. Benjamin Tetteh Anang, and Dr. Abubakari Ahmed.
Others include Prof. Haruna Issahaku, Prof. Abdul Razak Abizari (Late), Dr. Lawrence Quaye, Prof. Mamudu Akudugu, Prof. Francis Kweku Amagloh, Dr. Alhassan Musah, Dr. Elias Danyi Kuusaana, Dr. Joseph Agebase Awuni, Dr. Hudu Zakaria, Dr. Frederick Dayour, Prof. Anthony Amalba, Prof. Abdulai Abubakari, Ing. Prof. Ibrahim Yakubu Seini, and Prof. J. Saa Dittoh.
The rest are Dr. Gilbert Abiiro, Dr. Godfred Jasaw, Mr. Samuel Twumasi Amoah, Mr. Oseni Lateef Adebayo, Dr. Martin N Adokiya, and Dr. Michael Boah.
The University and its staff, having been ranked so highly by the Alper-Doger (AD) Scientific Index 2022 Version 2, goes to prove that the emphasis UDS places on practically-oriented, research and field-based training is achieving its aim of contributing towards poverty reduction in order to accelerate national development.
According to the Alper-Doger (AD), Scientific Index Ltd, the assessment procedure for ranking the 1000 Ghanaian scientists and their scientific studies was based on international standard scoring systems, including citations in renowned databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Publons and Google Scholar, to provide the numerical indicators showing how productive and effective a researcher is.
The AD Scientific Index is a ranking and analysis system based on the scientific performance and the added value of the scientific productivity of individual scientists. Also, it provides rankings of institutions based on the scientific characteristics of affiliated scientists.
