UDS Medical Laboratory Sciences Department (MLSD) Holds Annual Lab Coat Ceremony For Transitioning Clinical Students

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Department of the University for Development Studies (UDS), renowned for its excellence, has organized the annual Lab Coat Ceremony at the Multipurpose Auditorium on the Tamale Campus. The event served as a rite of passage for the class of 2025 students, marking their transition into the clinical phase of their studies and recognizing their dedication to the medical laboratory profession.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including the Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Humphrey Kwesi Garti, who advised to students to adhere to the ethics of the profession even as they continue to study hard. Dr. Humphrey Garti emphasized the profound significance of the White Coat Ceremony as a milestone in their journey towards becoming exemplary professionals. He commended the students for their hard work and perseverance, which had led them to this pivotal point in their educational pursuits.

Dr. Garti reminded the students of the responsibilities that come with wearing the white coat, symbolizing the trust bestowed upon them as they step into the clinical realm. He urged them to maintain diligence, unwavering commitment, and dedication to their chosen profession. "As you enter the hospital environment, you will interact with various healthcare professionals. Show them the characteristics of a Medical Laboratory student from UDS, embodying excellence, integrity, and compassion," he said.

The Dean called upon all stakeholders to rally behind the development of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department and the University as a whole. He envisioned a future where UDS would transcend its current achievements and become a shining beacon of knowledge and innovation in the field of medical sciences.

The presence of the Former Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Nafiu Amidu, and the Director of Allied Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ignatius Awinibuno, and the President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS), H.E. Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani added more colour to the already colourful event.

The Lab Coat Ceremony stood as a testament to the University's commitment to nurturing exceptional healthcare professionals and fostering a culture of excellence. The event served as an inspiring reminder of the incredible impact these aspiring clinical students will have on the healthcare landscape in Ghana and beyond.
