UDS Hosts 17th Annual Interdisciplinary Conference
The University for Development Studies (UDS), through its Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (IIR), held its 17th Annual Interdisciplinary Conference from September 11 to 12, 2024, at the UDS Guest House. The two-day event was themed "Globalization and Local Economic Transformation: The Role of Interdisciplinary Research" and attracted experts from academia, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
Chairman of the event, Prof. Mohammed Iddrisu Muniru, the Principal of the Nyankpala Campus, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, officially opened the conference by welcoming participants. In his speech, Prof. Muniru emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research in tackling complex global challenges, noting its critical role in driving sustainable development and local economic transformation.
The Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, Prof. Mahamudu Akudugu, underscored the significance of the conference theme. According to him, the focus on globalization and economic transformation reflects the need for researchers to generate knowledge that will contribute to local economic progress in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Over the course of the conference, more than 50 abstracts and research presentations were delivered. These presentations showcased innovative research findings and proposed solutions to address pressing global issues, particularly how local economies can adapt and thrive within the context of globalization.
The annual Interdisciplinary Conference at UDS has become a key platform for scholars and practitioners to collaborate across various fields of study. By fostering dialogue and sharing research, the event continues to play a significant role in advancing interdisciplinary research and contributing to both local and global development solutions.
