UDS GAUA Holds Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The University for Development Studies (UDS) branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), on Friday, July 29, 2022 held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the university’s Works & Physical Development (WPD) Conference Hall, at the Central Administration. As part of the meeting, GAUA reported to members on all its activities for the past year including its current financial status. Members also took the opportunity to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the Association.
The President of GAUA, Dr. Iddrisu Mohamadu. Tanko expressed his appreciation to all members, both old and new for their support and cooperation. He especially, welcomed all new members and congratulated them for joining the GAUA fraternity.
Dr. Tanko and his executives took turns to brief members on the status of conditions of service, welfare and the financial standing of the Association. He was very optimistic that they fought a worthy cause for the union adding that soon, the results of their hard works will be manifested for members to see.
The Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Stephen Delle announced to the house that all the positions were filed by single contestants. Hence, they are all contesting the various positions unopposed. The contestants were however taken through the rudiments of the electioneering processes and eventually got the unanimous acceptance of members. In the end, the following contestants emerged as the newly elected executives of GAUA:
- Dr. Iddrisu Mohamadu Tanko - President
- Ms. Ruhia Abdulai - Vice- President
- Ms. Stephane Adongo - Secretary
- Mr. Aliu Adam - Treasurer
- Mr. Dauda Alhassan - Assistant Secretary
Among the elected, were the President and the Vice President who contested for their second terms going into office, whiles the Secretary contested to be elevated from her prvious position of a Vice-Secretary to a substantive Secretary. The rest of the contestants were new entrants who got elected for the first time into the executive positions of GAUA.
The Head of the University’s Legal Unit, Mr. Robert Naamwinibob Tater Esq.administered the oath of office to the newly elected GAUA executives on behalf of the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Abubakar who was elsewhere on other official assignments. He advised the new executives to work in harmony, not only in the interest and growth of GAUA but for the University at large.
Some senior and experienced members of the union took turns to congratulate and also advice the new executives to work in harmony and closely with Management and other Unions to ensure a good working environment for the benefit of all staff. They also cautioned them not to relent on the efforts of the past executives at fighting to improve the working conditions of members.
