UDS Central SRC/LNUGS Hands Over To New Executives
The 15th Central Students Representative Council (SRC TLC) and the Local National Union of Ghana Students (LNUGS) handing over ceremony was held on the 19th September, 2024 at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Board Chamber at the UDS Central Administration Block. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Alhassan, the Dean of Students, Dr. Alhassan Musah, the Vice Dean of Students of the Tamale Campus, Dr. Umar Haruna and Vice Dean of Students for the Nyankpala Campus, Dr. Ing. Linda Laari and other senior officials of the University were all present.
In his welcome address, the Dean of Students, Dr. Alhassan Musah congratulated the incoming executives for their electoral success and lauded the outgoing executives for their numerous support to the University for Development Studies. He called on the SRC and the Local NUGS to consider electoral reforms so as to avert future electoral controversies.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan who doubled as the Chairman for the occasion, in his opening remarks encouraged the incoming executives to work hard and collaborate to move UDS from its current fourth position to the first or second in the university rankings in Ghana.
Prof. Elliot administered the oath of office to the new executives of SRC/LNUGS and encouraged them to discharge their duties with dignity and implement policies that will inure to the benefit of the entire student body.
The outgoing Central SRC President, HE Hussein Rukaya encouraged the new executives to always consult the University Management in times of difficulties. She also assured them of her support when the need arises. Madam Rukaya donated a number of customized uniforms to the University’s Cadet Corps to boost their morale. On his part, the outgoing LNUGS President, Mr. Issah Abdul Manan reiterated the need for the SRC and NUGS to work together for the collective goal of the students and the University as a whole.
The new Central SRC President, HE Bruce Kambout thanked the entire student body for the confidence reposed in him and his team and assured them of their commitment to improve the welfare of all students. He also promised the University Management of his maximum cooperation.
The GRASAG and the IDCL were among those invited who took turns to express their good will messages in solidarity with the new Executives.
The old and the new Executives exchanged the files of offices and received citations in recognition of their hard work, commitment and dedication to the students and the University at large.
The Chairperson, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan in his closing remarks advised the new Executives to abide by the rules and regulations of their offices and that of the University and called on the outgoing Executives to serve as advisers to the new Executives. He further encouraged GRASAG to endeavor to work with the University and serve as counsellors to the SRC/LNUGS. He wished the executives a fruitful tenure of office.
