UDS' Athlete Selected to Represent Ghana at 2022 Commonwealth Games
Barnabas Aggeh, one of the Atheletes who made UDS proud at the recent Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) games in Nairobi Kenya, has been invited to represent Ghana at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Ghana’s contingent for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) left the country on Thursday, July 21 to participate in the event.
In all 126-member contingent of athletes and coaches, left Accra for Birmingham, with the Games scheduled to commence on July 28, and end on August 8, 2022.
Ghana would compete in athletics, badminton, boxing, beach volleyball, cycling (road race), field hockey, judo, table tennis, triathlon, para-cycling, weightlifting, and squash.
The country has competed in 16 editions of the Games since its inception in 1954 and only missed out in the 1986 Games held in Edinburgh.
A total of 57 medals made up of 15 gold medals, 18 silver medals and 24 bronze medals have been won by Ghana since competing at the Commonwealth Games.
Ghana made medals in athletics and boxing with judo winning a bronze medal at the 2014 Games in Glasgow, Scotland and one bronze medal at the last Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Barnabas Aggeh joins a growing list of student athletes from the University for Development Studies who have been invited on national team duties.
