UDS Annual Coordinators’ Workshop For Distance And Continuing Learning
The University for Development Studies (UDS) Annual Coordinators’ Workshop for Distance and Continuing Learning was held on the 11th of January 2023 at the UDS City Campus. The Workshop brought together all coordinators from the various centers, with the aim of reviewing activities of the past year and to plan for the future.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Felix K. Abagale commended the coordinators for diligently holding forth for the University. He urged them to continue to ensure fair ground for all students, foster a supportive environment, act as role models, and make sure that both tutors and learners are punctual in their duties. He charged coordinators to encourage students to pay their fees on time to make them eligible to register for their classes.
Prof Shamsudeen Ziblim, Director of Quality Assurance, cautioned the coordinators not to enroll anybody without an admission letter. He also urged the coordinators to help to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning. He applauded some coordinators who were doing very well in creating a conducive environment for teaching and learning and appealed to other coordinators to emulate them. He appealed to administrators to ensure that students’ correct details are registered on answer sheets during examinations to avoid instances of incomplete results.
Dr. Cecilia Alima Issakah, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education, advised the coordinators to give students the needed assistance especially, during the course of their project work. She highlighted the importance of the supervision of examinations and quizzes, the provision of counselling services, the management of materials, and the provision of feedback to the University Management as integral to their roles as coordinators.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr Felix Longi Director, Institution of Distance and Continuing Learning, Dr Maxwell Nyatsikor, Deputy Director of Institute of Distance and Continuing Learning, Mr. Wahab Yahaya, Head, Academic Affairs and Mr. Muftau from the Accountants Office.
The various coordinators pointed out the challenges they face especially, regarding admissions, application processes among others. They also discussed and suggested possible solutions to the problems.
