The Pickleball Association of Ghana Boosts UDS Sports with Pickleball Equipment Donation

The Pickleball Association of Ghana, under the leadership of its Technical Director, Mr. Michael Justice Apea, embarked on a significant mission to the University for Development Studies (UDS) on 22nd September, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to introduce and add an existing but novel sport, the Pickleball game, to the university’s sports and also support them with some pickleball equipment.

Mr. Apea, the driving force behind the initiative, spoke passionately about the global popularity of pickleball, particularly, in the United States of America, and its potential to make a mark in Ghana. He emphasized the association's commitment to promoting the sport in the country.

What made this occasion even more special was the association's decision to choose UDS as the hub for pickleball training, not just for their own students but as a focal point for other tertiary and secondary educational institutions in the region.

The gesture was met with warmth and appreciation from the Director of Sports at UDS, Mr. Ibrahim Shaibu Tanko. On behalf of the university, he expressed gratitude to the Pickleball Association of Ghana for their generous support and commitment to advancing sports in the country. The donation of pickleball equipment is expected to pave the way for exciting opportunities in sports development and create a new avenue for students to explore their athletic talents.

Pickleball, often described as a mix of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, has been gaining popularity worldwide for its accessibility and enjoyable gameplay. Now, with the Pickleball Association of Ghana's support, it's set to become a highlight of sports culture at UDS and beyond.

This collaborative effort between the Pickleball Association of Ghana and the University for Development Studies is a testament to the power of sports in fostering unity, promoting healthy living, and providing opportunities for growth and development. As the sport takes root in Ghana, it is sure to inspire a new generation of athletes and enthusiasts.
