The Directorate Of International Relations Organises Chevening Scholarship Information Seminar For Students
The Directorate of International Relations at the University for Development Studies (UDS),in partnership with the Chevening Scholarship Committee in Ghana, on 27th September 2023, organized a Chevening Scholarship Information seminar for students of UDS.
The event, which came off at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Chamber on the Tamale Campus, offered the participants valuable insights into what it takes to study in the United Kingdom.
The Northern Ghana Attaché for the British High Commission Mr. Paul Edwards, expressed his delight at seeing participants who dream of further studies at renowned UK universities.
The Projects and Partnerships Officer at the Chevening office in Ghana. Mrs. Doreen Ameonu provided a comprehensive overview of the history and significance of Chevening Scholarships. She said the scholarships are open to individuals from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate a strong commitment to effecting positive change and articulate how a UK Master's Degree will empower them to achieve this goal.
Mrs. Ameonu added that Chevening Scholarships offer full financial support, enabling scholars to pursue eligible Master's programs at any UK university while providing access to exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.
“Since its inception in 1983, Chevening has empowered over 50,000 professionals to thrive in the UK, and this legacy continues with over 1,500 scholarships available globally for the 2022/2023 academic year, illustrating the UK's enduring dedication to nurturing tomorrow's leaders”, she said.
Mrs. Ameonu guided participants through the application process, including the necessary documentation, references, and essential do's and don'ts when applying. She added that, the Chevening Scholarship for 2023 opened on 12th September and will close on the 7th November, 2023.
The session encouraged active participation, with attendees asking questions about the scholarship. Notably, some participants who engaged actively were rewarded with souvenirs.
The Director of International Relations at UDS, Prof. Courage Saba expressed his gratitude to the Chevening Scholarship Office for helping to organize the seminar.
Present at the seminar were the Principal Administrative Assistant at DIRA, Mr. Bapuni Okasha, Senior Political Advisor at Chevening Scholarships, Abraham Agoni, Strategic Engagement Assistant, Prosper Afun, and Officer of Chevening Scholarship for the Northern Ghana branch, Hamdalatu Bancey Yahaya.
This collaborative initiative between the Chevening Scholarship Committee and UDS's Directorate of International Relations not only disseminated vital information but also served as an inspiring platform for aspiring scholars to embark on their academic journeys in the UK, with the hope that they will ultimately return to contribute to positive change in their communities and beyond.
