Pax Romana UDS Honours Prof. Ayum Teye
Pax Romana of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has held a special Mass on the Tamale Campus of the University, in honour of an industrious member of the Catholic Church, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, the Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies.
The beautifully organised and well attended mass, brought together many dignitaries and leading members of the Catholic Church, UDS Catholic Chaplaincy and Some Catholic Staff in Tamale and Nyankpala, including Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Asante, Fr. Wilfred Agana, Prof. Adu Gyamfi, Prof. Hamdia Alhassan, Dr. Vida Yakong, Mr. Kennedy Ahanogbe, Mr Francis Cudjoe, Prof Hamdia, Mr Abraham Bodong, Mr. Magnus Dogoli, Dr. Akangangang Joseph Asitik and Dr. Gilbert Ayombisah.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ayum Teye, whose tenure ends on August 31, 2022, in the company of his wife, Mrs. Selina Edem Teye, was given a front row seat and presented with citations; one from UDS Catholic Staff, another from IMCS Pax Romana ST Thomas Aquinas Locale, and a third from IMCS Pax Romana ST Benedict Locale, while the UDS SRC presented him with an art work.
In his opening address, Senior Lecturer, Department of Educational Management and Policy Studies at UDS said it was great that Professor Ayum Teye started well and completed the assignment well. “Professor Ayum Teye, you should be very proud of yourself. It is not about starting; it is about finishing excellently well. You are leaving big shoes, but we believe your legacy will endure”, he added.
Father Wilfred Agana of the UDS Catholic Chaplaincy expressed fulfilment at the solid foundation Prof. Ayum Teye had given the university in terms of sound academic heritage and infrastructural expansion as well as his support for the Catholic church.
Prof. Adu Gyamfi, representing the UDS Catholic staff, said, Prof Ayum Teye was a man of multiple anointing - intellectual leadership anointing and more.
Responding to the encomium galore, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye thanked the Management, Staff and Students of UDS and especially, members of the Catholic Church on for supporting him with prayers to prove his mettle. He, however, gave all the glory to God, saying “all was by God’s grace”.
He expressed his gratitude for the honour done him and promised to continue to show commitment to the Catholic Church. The recipient of the Papal orders of knighthood, a knighthood bestowed on him in the name of the Pope of the Catholic Church in 2018, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, the out-going Vice-Chancellor advised young men and women to aspire for the very best, not just in education, but in their spiritual lives too.
Until his appointment as the fourth Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayum Teye whose appointment took effect on October 1, 2015, was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university and was inducted into office by the then Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Prof. Stephen B. Kandie, at an impressive investiture and induction ceremony at the central administration of the university in Tamale.
