Nursing And Midwifery Students of UDS Embark on Educational Visit to Northern Regional Medical Stores

There are various educational techniques by which educators deliver lessons to their students. Organizing an educational tour is one of them. Educational tours play an important role in educating students in a practical and interesting manner. Experts say that something that is seen in real can be easily perceived than something that is simply read about in a book and memorized theoretically. Educational tours can also be a way to fun and recreation and act as a stress buster for students.

It is for this reason that students in level 400 at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Tamale campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS), under the auspices of the Dean, Dr Vida Yakong, embarked on an educational visit to the Northern Regional Medical Stores. Key among the reasons for the educational visit, was to give the aspiring nurses and midwives, some practical experience in the study of supply chain management.

Staff of the Regional Medical Stores explained the mission, vision, mandate and functions of the medical stores to the students. The students got the chance to interact with staff and ask questions while observing how the staff went about their work.

The Northern Regional Medical Stores supplies drugs and medical consumables in a seamless manner through an integrated Supply Chain System to feed the health system in the region.

The Nursing and Midwifery students of UDS expressed their gratitude to the Management and staff of the Northern Regional Medical Stores for allowing the students to have a feel of the practical experience of supply chain management.
