National Ambulance Service Opens a Station at UDS, Tamale Campus.
The National Ambulance Service (N.A.S) has opened an office and stationed a brand new ambulance at the University for Development Studies, (U.D.S.) Tamale Campus, as part of the “One Constituency, One Ambulance” initiative of the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo.
The delegation from the National Ambulance Service in the Tamale South Constituency led by the Head of Administration, Mr. Abdul Rahaman Mumin were received by the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye. This ceremony took place on 29th June, 2021 at the Central Administration block Complex of the University.
At the briefing, The Vice Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, welcomed the idea and expressed his profound gratitude to the National Ambulance Service for their kind gesture and promised to assist in any way possible to ensure its smooth operations. According to him, the University for Development Studies, by its location along the Tamale-Kumasi Highway which is within the Tamale South constituency is well positioned to have such an important emergency service for the benefit of the population around its catchment area which is yet to benefit from the President’s initiative.
He further stated that the Ambulance will not only serve the University, but also the surrounding communities around its catchment area particularly in emergency referrals. He also asked for more of such collaborations in the near future.
The Registrar, Dr. A.B.T. Zakariah, while receiving the keys to the Ambulance also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Management and Staff of the N.A.S. and pledged his unending support towards this great initiative. In a symbolic handing over of the keys to the Director of University Health Services, the Registrar assured the team that the Ambulance would be put to good use for the benefit of the entire population.
Also present at the ceremony were the Head of Academic Affairs, Alhaji Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Director of University Health Services, Dr. K.K. Azeez and a Representative of the University Relations.
