Ghana Association of University Administrators - UDS Suspends Strike

Pending the outcome of a meeting between its Executives and the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), has from Tuesday, August 16, 2022, decided to suspend its strike action which began on August 10, 2022.

This decision, according to the President of GAUA-UDS, Dr Iddrisu M. Tanko, was arrived at, during an emergency meeting held on Monday August 15, 2022 at the City Campus in Tamale.

Dr. Iddrisu Tanko intimated that the members took the decision because the National Labour Commission has invited the Executive Council of GAUA-UDS for a meeting in Accra on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 to address the concerns they raised before embarking on the industrial strike action.

In a statement signed by Dr. Iddrisu Tanko and copied to the Director- General, GTEC, the Chairperson of  VCG, the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of UDS and the media,  the members of GAUA-UDS said they “arrived at this decision with the firm belief that the National Labour Commission and the other stakeholders, especially, the Controller and Account General's Department (CAGD) would demonstrate good faith and commitment to resolving the thorny issues and anomalies that have arisen as a result of the migration of UDS staff unto the CAGD's payroll system.

The statement concluded that in the absence of a fair outcome of the deliberations with the GAUA-UDS executives, members might be compelled to resume the strike action.

The president of GAUA-UDS, Dr. Iddrisu Tanko says all GAUA members are expected to report to work on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
